US Consumer Data
Friday, January 12, 2018 at 13:30 GMT

Data on consumer spending have been closely monitored by policy makers (Federal Reserve, the US government, and traders).

The US Core Retail Sales data signal a positive growth of the US economy, but the US Core Consumer Price Index has not been as positive. Analysts anticipate this trend to continue.

What do you think?

Will the data finally signal an improvement of economic conditions? Or will the USD continue its slide?

What are the key US Consumer Data?

The main US Consumer Data include the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the US Retail Sales.

The US CPI measures the changes in the price of goods and services (like housing, apparel, education, communication, etc.), and is a key indicator of purchasing trends and inflation.

Retail Sales measures the change of sales at the retail level and give a good indication of how the US economy is performing.

In both cases, a higher than expected reading should be considered bullish (positive) for the USD, and vice versa.
