Traditionally, on Monday we have prepared for you a fresh overview of the main events of this week.

According to preliminary data, in the first round of the presidential elections in France, Emmanuel Macron (24% of the vote) and Marine Le Pen (22% of the vote) are leading.

Both candidates go forward to a second round of voting, which will be held on May 7.

As always, a number of important macroeconomic statistics will be published in the upcoming trading week.

April 24th Monday

The attention is focused on the results of the first round of the presidential elections in France. At the moment, Emmanuel Macron is leading.

There is a significant increase in demand for the euro. The EUR/USD currency pair opened with a gap up (more than 150 points).

Today we should also pay attention to the IFO business climate index for Germany (11:00 GMT+3:00).

The publication of important economic reports from the US is not planned. At 18:30 (GMT+3:00) there will be a press conference of FOMC member Kashkari.

April 25th Tuesday

On commodity currencies, one should expect a lower trading activity and volatility. In Australia and New Zealand, the Anzac Day is celebrated.

In the American trading session it is necessary to pay attention to the following statistics from the USA:

  • the consumer confidence index of CB (17:00 GMT+3:00);
  • the new home sales (17:00 GMT+3:00).

April 26th Wednesday

In the Asian trading session, the Australian Bureau of Statistics will publish quarterly data on inflation in the country.

This event can cause significant pressure on the dynamics of AUD/USD and NZD/USD currency pairs. At the moment most experts believe that inflation in Australia will accelerate.

We also expect important economic reports from Canada:

  • the base index of retail sales (15:30 GMT+3:00);
  • the volume of retail sales (15:30 GMT+3:00).

April 27th Thursday

On Thursday, the news background will be very busy. The Bank of Japan and the ECB will decide on further monetary policy. Most experts believe that the central banks will adhere to current rates of monetary policy.

Also, one should pay attention to the following statistics on the US economy:

  • the basic orders for durable goods (15:30 GMT+3:00);
  • the balance of foreign trade in goods (15:30 GMT+3:00);
  • the index of unfinished sales in the real estate market (17:00 GMT+3:00).

April 28th Friday

In the Asian trading session, a number of quite important statistics from Japan, New Zealand, and Australia will be published.

Nevertheless, the main attention of investors will be directed to quarterly data on GDP of Great Britain, USA, and Canada.

At 12:00 (GMT+3:00) there will be data on inflation in the euro area.
